Can I Solo Travel? Really?

Traveling solo is generally a daunting decision and not something you just decide the night before. So many facets come into play and it’s generally a journey just getting to that decision. Even once you get to that point it’s not as simple as you think to commit to that plan.

So what holds you back?
Seriously you can make an excuse for almost anything to hold you back. Small excused like a friends wedding, a mates birthday or slightly bigger commitment decisions like a relationship or career slash promotion.

Travel buddies
I started doing trips with mates at the age of 17 when I left school. I headed to Bali, Indonesia with a mate for schoolies week and surfed the entire trip. That trip opened my eyes to not only travel without parents but a huge variety of things. Cultures, food, responsibility and how the third world operated and lived.

I made numerous trips each year with mates through Europe doing islands, cities and festivals while working full time back home to pay for my bug. It was a mix of seeing the world as well as making enough money to support this addiction.

Solo
I’d always wanted to do a solo trip but so many thinks kept stopping me. Getting promoted at work, having a girlfriend, family situations…and me doubting myself if I was ready to travel solo, it was a big daunting step.

My life kinda changed one year when I broke up with a girlfriend. I became really content on my own, I actually reviled in my own company. Things like having breakfast in a cafe solo became a regular outing for me and I really enjoyed my own company as well as hanging with mates. I quit my job, sold my classic car (EJ Holden) and bought a ticket to Bangkok on a 4 month solo adventure through Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Im not going to lie, the night before I left my heart was pounding with me thinking…what the hell am I doing!

That trip changed my life. It was the catalyst to traveling the world solo and working for Cover-More Travel Insurance as their World Corespondent capturing photos, video and blogs for their brand.

Now
I can honestly say I love my job. I travel the world continually, generally solo to discover cultures, food, adventures to help you guys when you plan your trips and help you have the adventure you always wanted but may have not thought was possible with your budget, lifestyle, knowledge or personal doubts.

Over to you: Have you solo travelled and did it change your life?
